Angela Fraleigh's (born 1976, Beaufort, SC) paintings mine the history of academic and avant-garde painting, and most recently, her practice has become site-specific in nature and has led to collaboration with institutions to mine invisible histories or dormant narratives in their collection. Her work explores themes such as gender, sexuality, femininity, and power dynamics, in a style that weaves together realism and abstraction in lush and complex works, ranging from intimate portraits to monumental figure paintings that reimagine women’s roles in art history, literature, and contemporary media.

Angela Fraleigh earned a BFA from Boston University in 1998 and an MFA from Yale University in 2003. She has exhibited widely at numerous venues including P.P.O.W.
