"Neutralized Square (from the right)" is a variation based on an earlier 2008 work on paper that takes it's source imagery from an FBI file on the North Carolina chapter of the Black Panther Party. Cyrus says, “when I made "Neutralized Square (from the left)", I was mainly responding to the square shape of the redaction, which has this kind of slender arrow piercing it. This reminded me of the infiltration the party suffered at the hands of the FBI, leading to their demise.” "Neutralized Square (from the right)" utilizes a variation of the the redaction as a symbol of how the FBI would conceal information before making the documents public.
