This large graphite on paper work, titled “Neutralize the Square,” takes its source imagery from an FBI file on the North Carolina chapter of the Black Panther Party. Cyrus says, “when I made this work, I was mainly responding to the square shape of the redaction, which has this kind of slender arrow piercing it. This reminded me of the infiltration the party suffered at the hands of the FBI, leading to their demise.” This is one of the first large drawings Cyrus executed.
