Weathervane: Various Artists

July 19 - August 30, 2024

Inman Gallery is pleased to present Weathervane, featuring work by: Charis Ammon, David Aylsworth, Amy Blakemore, Francesca Fuchs, Jackie Gendel, Emily Joyce, Toni LaSelle, Brown Lethem, David McGee, Katrina Moorhead, Kristin Musgnug, Robyn O’Neil, Alexis Pye, Robert Ruello, Beth Secor, Carl Suddath, Brad Tucker and Jana Vander Lee.

Included in the installation is an accompanying poem written by Donna J. Harkness, titled "Weather Vane," an echo to Toni LaSelle's 1971 painting, Weathervane: N-S, E-W (Aug). Weather Vane, Harkness' poetry collection by the same name, was published in 1940 by Talaria Publication [Cincinnati, OH; all rights reserved to the author and press). The poem is transcribed by hand onto the wall in the gallery entryway, directly in conversation with the artworks themselves.

Weather Vane
by Donna J. Harkness, 1940

Once I rebelled and braced myself
Against the winds of loss and pain;
The gale blew on and there was I
Spent and breathless by the strain.

Against the sky where four winds blow
I watched a whirling weather vane
Turn lightly with each gentle breeze,
Then turn the same in storm and rain.

Rebel or yield, the winds of fate
Blow soft or strong, bring loss or gain-
Henceforth, around I turn, meet life,
As yielding as a weather vane.

Weathervane is on view in our main gallery July 19 – August 30, 2024. The show is concurrent with Summer 1964, a selection of works by Dorothy Antoinette "Toni" LaSelle, installed in our south gallery.
